Normalerweise lesen sich die Geschichten der Erfolgreichen wie eine Aneinanderreihung von tollen Entscheidungen und Erfolgen. Nicht so Ben Horowitz. Natürlich sind Entscheidungen in keinem Unternehmen leicht aber "gute Zeiten" lassen oft schlechte Entscheidungen besser dastehen und verzeihen Fehler eher.Ben Horowitz gründete zu Ende der .com Blase - das Geld saß locker, alles was nur entfernt nach Internet aussah bekam das VC hinterher geworfen und musste seine Firma bevor sie profitabel war durch das unvermeidliche Platzen der Blase manövrieren, Leute entlassen, pivotieren und einsame, harte Entscheidungen treffen. Das Buch ist leerreich und hat einen Spannungsbogen wie ein Krimi.

Ich habe das Audiobuch gehört und bin absolut begeistert. Kurzweilig, unterhaltsam und informativ. Was mir besonders gefällt ist, dass auch die weniger tollen Seiten des Unternehmertums angesprochen werden. Beispielsweise, dass man harte Entscheidungen treffen muss wenn es um Entlassungen geht. Insgesamt ein guter Einblick in die Technik und Venture-Szene von jemandem der Insiderinformationen hat.

Ben Horowitz essentially tells his life story with all of the ups and downs. And even if you don't learn anything from his stories, it will leave you impressed.He shares his extensive experience on business topics and casually adds the lessons he learned along the way. To me his book is a must read for entrepreneurs and people who call themselves or are called leaders. There were a lot of situations I had experienced before, some things I would 100% agree on and some things I don't... but that's the great thing about the book: it feels like a casual conversation with the author because it's straight out of life and not some theoretical business advised that is based on statistics.

A great book. It's not all sunshine in the world of being a CEO or an entrepreneur and Horowitz describes it excellent. For me, there is a little too much about firing people (but that is probably just a cultural issue between me and the Americans). However, one of the best books I have read over the last years. Definitely recommended.

You might recognize the Horowitz from Andreessen Horowitz, one of the most recognisable VC funds nowadays.Anyways, this book is less about investing and more about the experiences of the author being the CEO of a struggling company, and what he learned from that when he transitioned to investing in startups.Honestly, I could not say I learned much from it that I could apply myself, but it is a very entertaining read nonetheless.

Dieses Buch ist wirklich außergewöhnlich gut.Es ist ziemlich amerikanisch: Wer an einer Erzählform und aus deutscher Sicht etwas dick aufgetragenem Bericht stört, für den ist es nichts. Aber es erzählt von vielen Situationen, die man in als GF einer Softwarefirma nur zu gut kennt und gibt wirklich relevante Einsichten und Ansichten dazu weiter. Ich habe viel daraus lernen können und ertappe mich immer wieder im Alltag, wenn ich meine Entscheidungen auf das Vorbild dieses Buches zurückführe.Ich habe es nicht am Stück gelesen, sondern jeweils einzelne Kapitel, wenn ich Zeit dazu hatte. Es ist nicht fesselnd wie ein Roman und nicht so trocken wie ein Sachbuch. Aber es gibt sehr viel Anregungen über einzelne Themen nachzudenken. Uns in vielen Themen, die ich bereits durchgemacht habe, bin ich zu einer ähnlichen Sicht gekommen. Das verleiht Vertrauen bei Themen, di ich noch nicht durchgemacht habe, den beschriebenen Weg zu versuchen.Es ist wohl für jeden CEO eine gute Lektüre. Für CEOs von Startups ist er noch besser als von CEOs von Großunternehen. Aber für CEOs von Software-Startups ist es unglaublich gut.
